GEORGE WINSTON

PIANIST, SLACK KEY GUITARIST

Introduction

George plays the music through his views of nature.

George Winston started piano lessons late, yet he has the gifted passion and talent to explore and impress through piano.

George Winston's stunning musical performances include: Tamarack Pines (of Forest,) and Hummingbird (of SUMMER,) George uses piano to describe nature and wildlife, and its motions. With many of his songs, there isnt a strict beginning as well as the ending.

George is also a Jazz music fan, currently created a new production inspired by the Doors, George continues to seek new grounds - combining the strict ambient nature of grand piano with the cultures of Jazz musics.

George arranged his pieces accordingto thefour seasons (Autumn, Summer, December, Winter into Spring.) Following are some of his creations.

MUSICAL Albums

DECEMBER
FOREST
SUMMER

This solo piano recording contains original songs as well as George's interpretations of some Winter favorites. December has become a perennial holiday favorite and has sold over 4 million copies in the United States.

George's competes the use of echoes and special effects that was used by performers (like David Lanz), musics are played and arranged in a very delicate way to make the music more sanctual, and beautiful.

Thanksgiving
Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head
Joy (Jesus Joy of Man's desiring) David Qualey actually created this rendition of the music using guitar. (in Telefunken Records, as the CD stated.)
 Prelude

Carol of the Bells A nineteenth century Ukrainian carol. Doesn't the original music sound nice when played through George's smooth, striding tune?

 Night: Snow, Midnight, Minstrels
Variations on the Kanon by Pachelbel There are many versons of Kanon but this seemed to be the only piano performance that I can find. As if George has written down a definition for this music.

The Holly and the Ivy A slow but constitutional popular vocal christmas carol has completely transformed into a free and celtic-like music composition.

 Some Children See Him
 Peace
cntent
This CD is one of my favorites. From the very beginning we are brought into Georges' impression of the sacred, mysterious forest, through our scattering across the mist like seeds we find movements, distances, uncivilized people and undamaged environment... which leads us to discover the vitalities and fantasies in the forest. (Of course you have your own intepretation and I would really love to know!)

However, at this point I must stop saying that George is being unique in style, but instead a combination of them, despite that most of these compositions are from famous artists like Howard Blake and the classical artist Steve Reich, not to mention many other jazz contributors that lead George Winston to a success.

Tamarack Pines Influenced by the work of composer Steve Reich and inspired by the Tamarack Pines of western Montana, which are unusual in that the pine needles turn yellow and drop from the trees in the fall.
Forbidden Forest
Troubadour By the jazz organist, Larry Young from his album, Heaven on Earth.*
The Cradle
Cloudy This Morning
Las Lullaby Here
Mon Enfant (My Child) A slow but constitutional popular vocal christmas carol has completely transformed into a free and celtic-like music composition.
Returning
Graceful Ghost A melodic ragtime piece written by composer and pianist William Bolcom in 1969 in memory of his father.
Walking in the Air My mother's favorite!! The original composition from Howard Blake. A middle of the tunes are retouched (using tunes from other sources) to intensify another feeling.
Building the Snowman, The Snowman's Music Box Dance
Love Song to a Ballerina By composer Mark Isham from the children's story sondtrack, The Seadfast Tin Soldier. Two other great soundtracks by Mark Isham are Thumbelina and The Emperor and the Nightingale.
Lights in the Sky

Japanese Music Box (Itsuki No Komoriuta) A Japanese lullabye called "Lullaby of Itsuki."

Night Sky
This gold solo album completes George's seasonal theme recordings. Summer includes original compositions and his intepretations of songs by Randy Newman, Philip Aaberg, Carmine Coppola, Art Lande and others.

Many of the musics here are renditions from its original solo guitar composition, and resembles deep sense of peace and simplicity.
